Phnom Penh, 1993: This woman's husband was a politician who had just been murdered during the fractious UN-administered elections of 1993. At many points prior to the May vote, we journalists never imagined how the election could happen. Political assasinations, Khmer Rouge attacks, and general chaos prevailed. The elections, of course, were a huge success, though Cambodia spent several more years until things really calmed down. Photo: © Doug Niven |
