Sisophan, 1995: My friend Greg Davis and I found this photo along the side of National Route 5, during one of our frequent trips up towards the Thai border. Usually we went up to the northwest looking for "bang bang" photos, as there was usually skirmishes between government soldiers and Khmer Rouge guerillas. Pailin, the Khmer Rouge's longtime stronghold, was just west of here, and totally off limits to any foreigner in those days. We'd usually spend the night in Battambang, and would often hear the thunderlike sounds of an artillery exchange. The next morning we'd wake up at 4:30am, get some noodles along the side of the road, and try to see what happened the night before. Now the entire area is completely quiet and safe.
