Truong Son mountains, 7/74: North Vietnamese Army truck struggles to climb one of the muddy tracks along the Ho Chi Minh trail. By 1973 telephone and telegraph lines, as well as diesel fuel pipelines, had been laid along the trail, which bolstered greatly both Viet Cong and North Vietnamese military progress. Photographer Lam Tan Tai, a Viet Cong photographer from the South, travelled the trail several times, and was discouraged by senior officers from photographing the trail; his journalistic instincts told him otherwise, and his photographs remain.
